lovely girl of the moment

I said before that I would be featuring creative, fashion-forward girls and their top five must-haves for the season...take a look! This is Sonal, who, needless to say, is fabulous.

Her top five must-haves for winter are:
1. Cozy flannel pajamas and Smartwool socks
2. Raspberry Truffle Latte Hot Chocolate from Target
3. Big chunky oversized sweaters. Hand knit? Even better!
4. Bath and Body Works Brown Sugar and Fig lotion
5. Black skinny jeans

LOOK at my new blazer. It is sparkly and darling, and was sixty-percent off. Sixty.

Cora was sweet enough to feed my obsession and take pictures of me in the holiday outfit I concocted just after I bought it. The top is just a t-shirt from Urban, with, "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars," written on it (Oscar Wilde, you've done it again). The skirt is also Urban, and the shoes are the Nine West peep-toe pumps I bought for my eighth grade graduation.

The Blazer also gets along very well when grunged down...last night I paired it with skinny jeans, pointy-toed flats, a racer-back with bird diagrams on it and my grandmother's earrings (for some sparkle).

I saw 'Slumdog Millionaire' for the first time on Friday night. Can you believe it? How did I go so long without being part of this phenomenon?

Needless to say, I loved it. And what makes it even better is that Dev Patel and Freida Pinto (who, in my book, is definitely on par with Audrey Hepburn in terms of the loveliness factor) are a couple in real life. But really, after all that, how could you not be?

Once I decided on the title "Hey there, lovely" (props to Devan, who says that in real life),

I immediately thought of Audrey Hepburn. Really, who could be lovelier? (P.S. A number of her dresses were just auctioned off in London...read the story here.)

Here are a few other pictures I've found. Notice especially the one with Grace Kelly (also terribly lovely...watch 'Rear Window' sometime, if just for the clothes). And the one with the...donkey? How could I resist?

Also, one announcement: every week, I am going to feature one girl who is creative and fashion-forward, but doesn't spend hundreds of dollars on a single outfit. This will be starting soon, so check early, check often!

I was thrilled when my Teen Vogue came in the mail with an article entitled 'Recessionistas: Savvy Teens Share Chic Ways to Score a Steal.' All of the lovely clothes I had been obsessing over since the moment I turned thirteen suddenly seemed possible. But then I saw that the high school fashion columnist in the featured photograph was wearing a $700 Alexander Wang blazer. Oh, okay.

It's easy to be fabulous when you have two-hundred dollars to spend on a T-shirt. When you can go to trunk shows on weekday mornings. When you live in London or Paris or New York. When your mother is a retired model.

But for most of us, it's not that simple.

This is a story about girls who are truly creative, who wear real clothes with genuine flare. This is a story about your best friend, your sister, your neighbor. This is a story about you.
